Digital Portfolios (also known as "eportfolios" or "electronic portfolios") have been around since the early 1990's. A digital portfolio is an online collection of student work - but to be truly useful for schools, portfolio also needs to contain student reflections and some form of teacher assessment.

The resources below link to our research on what makes portfolios effective and how schools have implemented portfolios for their own settings.
